Time flies, doesn't it? Soon the holiday season will be
upon us and all the rushing around and stress that
ensues. If you have plans on ordering a gift from us,
please remember that most of our artists need at
least 6-8 weeks lead time for special orders. So if it
isn't in stock, we won't be able to get last minute
special orders very easily. Plan ahead and order now!
| Artist Spotlight - Rick Sheremeta |

|
Richard (Rick) Sheremeta is an award winning artist
who has come to be acknowledged as a nationally
recognized writer, and accomplished nature
photographer. Essentially self-taught, Rick has honed
his photographic skills over many years and under
many diverse conditions. Digital 35mm has become
his format of choice as the ability to see immediate on-
the-scene results, and the creative flexibility afforded
by the "digital darkroom" has taken photography to
another dimension for him.
Rick has authored many articles on outdoor
photography techniques, gear and clothing, wildlife
and travel. His photographs and editorial work have
been featured in Outdoor Photographer,
Shutterbug, Tamron USA's Pro-Learning
Center and Viewfinder, and Women in the
Outdoors magazines. Rick is currently a contract
photographer with The Associated Press.
Holding engineering degrees from Union College and
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Rick has put his
engineering practice aside and has teamed with his
wife, Dody, in their creative venture, AlpenGlow
Productions, Inc., a successful business that they
enjoy together.
Meet Rick during Whitefish Gallery Night, Thursday,
October 4, 2007 from 6-9 PM. Rick's work will be
displayed during the opening and throughout the
month of October.

It seems inevitable that as each season approaches
we want to reflect the changes in some way in our
homes. This is fun to do for the whole family.
Several areas lend themselves easily to these
seasonal changes. One obvious one is the front
entry. With autumn upon us you can change the shape
and color of planters or simply replace summer
flowers with fall mums or grasses. If you like wreaths
you can buy or make a fall wreath with berries and
seedpods. Lay wood in the fireplace in preparation for
the first fire of the season. Fill the wood box by the
side of the fireplace or woodstove. You can change
the color of the candles on a mantle or in the dining
room and add fall flowers or leaves. Bowls can be
filled with fall fruits, nuts and gourds and placed on
the table in the kitchen or dining room.
These small touches celebrate each season and
keep us in tune with the natural rhythm of our
environment.

Three statisticians went out hunting, and came across
a large deer. The first statistician fired, but missed, by
a meter to the left. The second statistician fired, but
also missed, by a meter to the right. The third
statistician didn't fire, but shouted in triumph, "On the
average we got it!"

We've already had snow dusting the top of the ski hill
and I'm looking forward to skiing again. But I can wait
because one of my favorite seasons is autumn.
Leaves changing colors, football games (Go
Grizzlies!) and the cool crisp nights remind me to slow
down and watch nature's changing seasons.
If you have small children, don't forget to stop by on
Halloween for the annual trick or treat in downtown
Whitefish. There are costume contests and all the
stores hand out candy to all the kids. Even if you don't
have kids, it's fun to see all the costumes. Some are
very innovative or not - last year I think there must have
been more than 10 Spiderman costumes strolling
about. Can't wait to see what's the popular costume
this year.
Our newest artist is the featured artist for the month.
Rick Sheremeta is a wonderful photographer. We'll
have his larger framed pieces throughout October and
he'll be present during the last Gallery Nights First
Thursdays. It's October 4th from 6-9pm. I hope
everyone has enjoyed Gallery Nights, we've enjoyed
participating and I'm sure we'll be involved again next
year.
Our winner for the Skittles for CERF tournament was
Hillary Counts from Kalispell with a score of 220. She
won a $150 gift certificate. We matched the entry fees
and sent CERF a check to support artists in a time of
need. Thanks so much to all who participated.
I hope everyone has a wonderful fall and a Happy
Halloween!
