  • Artist Spotlight - Sarah Angst
    Chickadee Greeting Card

Sarah Angst is an artist and printmaker who grew up in Winnipeg, Canada. She attended the University of Minnesota Duluth and received a BFA in Art Education. She moved to Bozeman, Montana in 2007 and upon her arrival she decided to focus on a lifelong dream of holding no other jobs, and living solely off her artist's income.

With its graphic qualities and bright colors, Angst's work is appealing to a wide range of people. Most of her prints are small and quaint, displaying the effortless beauty in everyday subject matter. Angst's images attempt to emit a calm and comforting sentiment of a simple time and a simple way of life. Many of Angst's pieces reflect her love of nature, her passion for color, and her sense of humor.

"Printmaking forces me to simplify things; to find the essence of my subject and display it with line and color. With so many distractions in life it is soothing to find something simple and serene, that grabs your attention, quiets the commotion and reminds you to slow down and enjoy the beauty in life."

Designing a kitchen should be easy. However with the myriad of appliances, cabinets, countertops, styles and options it can be overwhelming.

Remember that in successful design form follows function. Design the space to work for you and your family. Discuss, think, and make lists-whatever works best for you to determine how you use your kitchen. Some of the questions might be; how many people will cook in the kitchen at once? How many do you normally cook for? Do you entertain? Will other people, for example, caterers, use the kitchen? Do you like friends in the kitchen while you cook? Will children be doing their homework in the kitchen while dinner is prepared? Do you bake? Do you eat in the kitchen? As you answer all these questions and more the concept for your kitchen will begin to take shape.

Once you have a clear concept you can move on to planning. Address the specifics of the work triangle, storage, counter and workspace, and traffic patterns for people and pets.

The last phase is style creating the feeling you want in your kitchen. Dont hesitate to collect pictures of details, colors, components you like and want to include. Visiting kitchen showrooms is a great way to see a variety of styles, various kinds of cabinets, countertops and appliances. Creating your kitchen takes a lot of thought and work but youll love the result.

    Joke of the Month

When I asked a friend the secret to his 52 years of marriage, he replied, "We never go to sleep angry."

    "That's a great philosophy," I noted.

"Yes. And the longest we've been awake so far is five days."

February is a busy month here in Whitefish. Winter Carnival is what it's all about during the first week. Don't miss the annual parade on February 6th and the Frivolity Ball the night before. There's also the art walk throughout downtown Whitefish, a hockey tournament, the Yeti Snowskate Jam, the Penguin Plunge and the Torchlight parade on the mountain. Come join in the fun!

Another event you don't want to miss is the Snow Bus Fundraiser Winefest that is being held at the Lodge at Whitefish Lake on February 20th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Tickets are $40 each and there's lots of wine, food, music and a silent auction. All the money raised goes to keep the Snow Bus free. If you'd like to purchase a ticket, donate an auction item or make a monetary donation to the SNOW Bus, please call Rick Cunningham at 406-253-9192.
